McKiggan Hebert, a Halifax Injury Law Firm, Announces Halifax Teacher of the Month Program

Students, Administrators, Neighbours, and Family Members Can Nominate Halifax Teachers to Win Gift Cards for School Supplies

HALIFAX, NS--(Marketwired - September 16, 2015) - McKiggan Hebert, a personal injury law firm with offices in Halifax, is excited to announce the launch of its new Halifax Teacher of the Month Contest. Under the program, members of the Halifax Regional School Board community can nominate their favorite teachers to win $50 gift cards that can be used to help offset the cost of buying school supplies for their classrooms. The firm will pick one deserving teacher each month, and the winner will be announced on the firm's website.

Teachers employed in Halifax Regional Municipality school districts are eligible to win, and McKiggan Hebert is accepting nominations from students, fellow teachers, school administrators, neighbors, family members, and others. The nomination form is now available on the McKiggan Hebert law firm website.

John McKiggan, one of the partners at McKiggan Hebert said:

"I spent 8 years volunteering on the School Advisory Committee at my sons' school so I have seen firsthand the sacrifices that some teachers make for their students. We just wanted to recognize their efforts and try to help out in some small way."

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has reported that, "teachers -- especially young, first-time teachers -- are buying hundreds of dollars worth of supplies for classrooms out of their own pockets." The CBC and various other outlets indicate that many teachers spend over $1,000 of their own money each year in order to equip their classrooms with the supplies their students need in order to be successful. This adds up to an enormous investment over the life of a teaching career.

Recognizing the sacrifices Halifax teachers are making to help their students, the McKiggan Hebert Law Firm is pleased to offer its Halifax Teacher of the Month Contest in order to help offset some of these costs. The firms' lawyers and staff are dedicated to helping the Halifax community, and the Teacher of the Month Contest is yet another way that they are able to help benefit the neighborhoods where they live and work. The firms' past community initiatives range from performing magic shows for school students and sponsoring a youth hockey team to lecturing on the dangers of distracted driving.

With the Halifax Teacher of the Month Contest, McKiggan Hebert looks forward not only to highlighting the efforts of Halifax's most dedicated teachers but to getting much-needed school supplies into the hands of local students as well. The $50 gift cards awarded under the program will be designated specifically for use in purchasing supplies for classrooms in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The nomination form requires nominators to explain why they believe their chosen teacher is deserving of the award. The firm will review all nominations and award the Halifax Teacher of the Month Program gift card to the one teacher who is particularly deserving based upon the nominations submitted. With gift cards being awarded every month, nominees from past months will remain eligible to win.

As Halifax teachers continue to selflessly spend their own money in order to help their students, the lawyers and staff at McKiggan Hebert look forward to helping them along the way. All members of the Halifax Regional School Board community are encouraged to submit their nominations for the Halifax Teacher of the Month Contest starting today.
