MDI Taking Leadership Role in Supporting Project Governance Community

IT Services Company Deploys Industry Expert to Assist Project Governance Professionals

NORCROSS, GA--(Marketwire - October 15, 2007) - For decades, organizations have known that their ability to survive and succeed is directly related to their ability to consistently and predictably deliver projects. The challenge is knowing how to align those projects to organizational goals, how to plan appropriately, and how to execute and evaluate successfully -- every time.

MDI, a nationally known, high-growth project services and professional staffing firm, is lending its in-house expertise to clients and industry members interested in learning how to maximize the power of project governance and management.

One such expert, MDI Project Governance Practice Director Eshan Chawla, has managed project governance assignments for 17 years, the last eight with Big 4 consulting firms and a Fortune 5 conglomerate. With three master's degrees -- one each in business administration, computer science and physics -- and certifications from the Project Management Institute (PMI), ITIL and Six Sigma, Chawla is often asked to share his project governance knowledge. Most recently, Chawla has spoken at events including the

-- Society for Information Management (SIM) chapter meeting, Phoenix
-- PMI Symposium, Greenville, S.C.
-- PMI Professional Development Day, Atlanta
-- PMI Local Interest Group, Atlanta
-- BA World, Atlanta

Chawla's presentations focused on two topics, managing projects consistently and complete project portfolio management. Over the years, he has developed a metaphor to help project managers envision and understand the importance of consistent methodology during project execution.

"Project managers can learn from professional pilots. No matter how gleaming their safety records, pilots use written checklists during each take off and landing. That's because items committed to memory sometimes get lost in the bustle of activities. So it is with planning and running projects," Chawla said. "When project managers adopt and consistently employ processes and standards, we usually experience smooth landings."

During his most recent years of consulting, Chawla has led transformational IT engagements on behalf of Fortune 500 and Global 2000 companies. These assignments included multiple engagements across the software development life-cycle, enterprise-wide IT program management offices and centers of excellence, and an IT project management office for SOX readiness.

A certified project portfolio management instructor, Chawla has trained scores of program and project managers. He was also part of the team that developed PMI's portfolio and program management standards.

Chawla joined MDI in late 2006 to develop the company's project services business, and the internal team is already benefiting from his experience.

"We are pleased to add to our team a project governance expert of Eshan's high caliber," said Amy Vasquez, President of MDI's IT Division. "Bringing Eshan on board tells the industry that MDI is committed to offering our clients a holistic approach to project services."
