MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 18, 2006) - MDN NORTHERN MINING (MINIERES DU NORD)(TSX:MDN) announces that Carlos H. Bertoni, CEO since June 2001, has asked the Company to accept his resignation to enable him to pursue other business interests in his native Brazil. The MDN Northern Mining Board of Directors has appointed a committee to identify and recommend a new CEO, and is also retaining a placement firm for this task. In the meantime, the exploration activities of the company will continue to be supervised by Dr. Dominique Fournier, recently appointed as Vice-President Exploration. The day-to-day interim activities will be managed by the Company's Chairman, Mr. Paul-A. Girard.

Carlos Bertoni stated: "It has been a satisfying and rewarding experience to manage the affairs of MDN Northern Mining to this point, and to have seen the Company emerge as a gold producer. However, for entirely personal reasons, I now need to redirect my professional activities towards my native country. It is also now the right time to bring in someone who will take the Company to a new level of exploration success and profitability. I do plan to remain involved with the affairs of the Company as an active member of the Board of Directors, and to continue to provide advice and guidance for its continuing success. I thank the MDN Northern Mining shareholders for the opportunity to serve them during the last few years, and remain highly confident of the Company's future."

MDN NORTHERN MINING is a Montreal-based Canadian exploration company that holds a 30% interest in the Tulawaka gold mine (Tanzania), a majority interest in 25 adjacent mineral licenses in Tanzania, a majority interest in three licenses in Eritrea, and other gold and base metal exploration interests in Quebec, Canada.
