MDN Northern Mining Confirms the Interest in the Simba Project-Tanzania

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 5, 2006) - MDN NORTHERN MINING (MINIERES DU NORD)(TSX:MDN) is pleased to announce the latest results from drilling programs on its Isambara occurrence, within the Simba project, a 70/15/15 joint venture between MDN Northern Mining (as operator), Lakota Resources of Toronto, and Jope Business Associates of Dar-es-Salaam. The prospecting licence covers 40 km2 and is located 28 km north of the Tulawaka gold mine. On October 17, we released the first assays received from the 2006 reverse circulation ("RC") drilling program. The present release reports results from the last 1,453 m of RC drilling for a total of 3,166 m on the property in 2006.

On the western part of the target, holes ISRC-46, ISRC-47 and ISRC-51 to ISRC-55 aimed at following-up on an initial 2005 drill intersection in hole ISRC-21, with 3 m at 8.63g/t Au. Two of the seven 2006 follow-up holes returned assays above 1g/t Au (see table). Three intersections line up on a NW-SE direction over 200 m (see map at: http://www.ccnmatthews.com/docs/MDN_Isambara_Tanzania.jpg). The mineralized zone remains open in both directions and at depth.

On the eastern part of the target, some 500 m to the east, holes ISRC-56 to ISRC-78 were drilled to follow-up two intersections above 10 g/t Au reported in 2005 in hole ISRAB-21 and earlier in 2006 in hole ISRC-49 (see map). Gold mineralization has been followed over a distance of 200 m in a NE-SW direction, remaining open in both directions and at depth. We interpret it to be hosted by tension fractures at high angle to the main shear direction.

Follow-up of these encouraging results will be carried out early in 2007.

Samples were analyzed by fire assay at the SGS laboratory in Tanzania, certified under international standards. A rigorous program of analytical grade verification implemented by MDN Northern Mining included 12% control samples. The drilling was carried out under the management of geologist Brian Lloyd, and supervised by geologist Dominique Fournier, Ph.D., who acted as a qualified person in accordance with NI 43-101.

MDN NORTHERN MINING is a Montreal-based Canadian exploration company that holds a 30% interest in the Tulawaka gold mine (Tanzania), a majority interest in 25 adjacent mineral licenses in Tanzania, a majority interest in one license in Eritrea, and other gold and base metal exploration interests in Quebec, Canada.
