MDSI Mobile Data Solutions Inc.: Wales and West Utilities Chooses Advantex to Enhance Customer Service

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 19, 2005) - Wales and West Utilities, a regulated gas distribution business, has selected MDSI Mobile Data Solutions' (TSX:MMD)(NASDAQ:MDSI) Advantex r7.7 enterprise mobile workforce management solution to support its asset maintenance and emergency services.

Wales and West Utilities maintains 34,000 km of gas distribution pipelines to transport gas to homes and businesses in Wales and the South West of England, which is populated by 7.4 million people.

Advantex improves field productivity and helps companies provide better customer service. It automatically schedules and dispatches work orders, and helps field workers, supervisors and dispatchers record and manage their work throughout the day, while reporting results wirelessly, in real time.

"Our business depends on delivering gas to our customers in a safe and reliable manner so it's critical that we have the right tools in place to help maintain our pipelines efficiently," said Phil Pike, Deputy Chief Information Officer at Wales and West Utilities. "We evaluated several workforce management solutions but MDSI's Advantex offered the best functionality, lowest risk and best value. We were also impressed by the team's experience and responsive approach."

Wales and West Utilities chose MDSI's Advantex in a Box solution, a self-deployable, highly-configurable workforce management system with a scheduled upgrade plan and comprehensive online support. Advantex will provide the latest in real time mobile technology for 740 of Wales and West Utilities' mobile workers, including interfaces to external geographic information systems in the field. Advantex will also be fully integrated with a new SAP system, providing a comprehensive end-to-end solution.

"This installation is yet another opportunity to use our expertise integrating Advantex with SAP to create a single mobile platform that links mobile technicians in real-time to a full array of SAP resources," commented Erik Dysthe, MDSI's President, CEO and Chairman.

MDSI is an official SAP partner and its Advantex product includes a certified interface for IS-Utilities. To complete the Wales and West Utilities solution, MDSI will work with Itronix to integrate its GoBook wireless, rugged notebook computer with Advantex.
