Bullfrog Power, Canada's leading green energy provider, Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), Canada's leading outdoor retailer, and the Society Promoting Environmental Conservation (SPEC) announced today that Vancouver's first grid-connected solar installation is once again delivering clean, pollution-free power to the grid.

The initiative was spearheaded by Bullfrog Power's Bullfrog Builds Renewable Accelerator program. Bullfrog is helping fund the expansion and relocation of the 3 kW solar installation-originally installed on the SPEC energy demonstration centre-to its new home on the roof of MEC's Broadway Avenue store.

"All of us at SPEC are pleased to see one of our projects and Vancouver's first grid-connected solar array find a new home," said Rob Baxter, President, SPEC. "By moving this landmark solar installation to the MEC Broadway Avenue location, we're helping educate Vancouverites about the city's green energy past while continuing to raise public awareness on the future of renewable energy in Canada."

"This project was a great opportunity to bring together MEC - a longtime supporter of green energy with Bullfrog Power - and SPEC, the oldest environmental non-profit in British Columbia," said Ron Seftel, Senior Vice President, Operations, Bullfrog Power. "Bullfrog Builds connects the support of our customers who bullfrogpower their homes and businesses with renewable energy projects across Canada, enabling us to provide critical financial support."

"Installing the SPEC solar array on our Broadway Avenue store makes good environmental and business sense," said MEC sustainability director Amy Roberts. "The installation demonstrates MEC's ongoing commitment to reducing our environmental impact by supporting clean, renewable energy."

Six MEC stores are bullfrogpowered with green electricity and an additional four stores bullfrogpowered with both green electricity and green natural gas. By choosing green energy from Bullfrog Power, MEC is reducing its environmental impact and supporting the development of new green energy projects in Canada. The SPEC solar array on MEC's Broadway Avenue store will continue to generate clean, pollution-free energy for more than 20 years.
