Med-Emerg International Inc. Announces Opening of Fifth CPM Pain Clinic

TORONTO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 23, 2006 -- Ramesh Zacharias, the CEO of Med-Emerg International Inc. (OTCBB: MDER) (OTCBB: MDERW), announced today that they have opened a fifth chronic pain management clinic in the Greater Toronto Area and have also relocated to a larger facility for their Hamilton clinic. The chronic pain clinics, which operate under the banner of CPM Health Centres, are located in Toronto (2), Mississauga, Hamilton and now Oakville.

Dr. Zacharias said, "Since opening our pain management business in November 2004, we have grown rapidly in response to patient need. We treated approximately 290 patients in our first month of operation compared to more than 1,200 patients treated in April 2006. Exemplifying this growth is our Hamilton clinic where monthly patient visits have increased six-fold over the last year. This growth necessitated our relocation to larger facilities. In Oakville, we have been fortunate to partner with Dr. Jim Clark, a pain specialist who has been providing chronic pain management therapy for more than 25 years, 10 of them in the Oakville community." Dr. Zacharias added, "Chronic pain affects 20% to 30% of the population and patient wait times range from 12 - 48 months. Under the direction of Dr. Roman Jovey, the President of the Canadian Pain Society and the Program Director of CPM Health Centres, we provide our physicians with comprehensive training and practical experience. We anticipate the continued growth of CPM as we look for new opportunities to address the needs of patients with chronic pain."
