Medecision Achieves Full URAC Health Utilization Management Accreditation

Commended for Commitment to Healthcare Quality, Accountability and Compliance

WAYNE, PA--(Marketwired - Jun 23, 2014) - Medecision, Inc. announced today that it has been awarded full Health Utilization Management Accreditation for Aerial™, the Company's market-leading population health management solution, from URAC, a Washington, DC-based accrediting organization that established quality standards for the healthcare industry. This is the second time that Medecision sought, and received, Health Utilization Management Accreditation from URAC. The Company also holds full URAC accreditation for Case Management, Disease Management and Health Content.

Risk-bearing healthcare organizations, like provider- and payer-sponsored Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), hospitals, Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) and health plans, rely on Aerial as a core component of their population health management strategy. The standards-based, flexible solution helps them Connect Care Everywhere, supporting the flow of actionable consumer health information between payers, providers and consumers to ensure the best quality care possible. Aerial's Utilization Management tools automate cumbersome processes like referrals, inpatient admissions, outpatient procedures and appeals workflows.

URAC accreditation is a nationally recognized symbol of healthcare excellence, respected throughout the industry and by the federal and state governments as an assurance that accredited organizations meet rigorous standards of quality and operational integrity that emphasize consumer protection and patient engagement.

To meet URAC's Health Utilization Management Accreditation standards, Medecision demonstrated that Aerial helps to establish consistency, supports clinical personnel oversight of the utilization review process, and eases the peer review/medical director determination process by presenting all clinical information needed to assist in a timely and thorough decision-making process.

The company also demonstrated its patent-pending Electronic Health Record (EHR) interface to Aerial workflow for automated referral and authorization, which streamlines clinical and financial insight from the EHR to and through health plans and back to the exam room. Users note measurable physician, nursing and clerical time, and efficiency savings. For example, the average practice devotes 20 hours per week to the authorization process, and two-thirds of physicians wait several days to receive prior authorization. The new Aerial interface cuts response time to minutes and saves the average practice $3-$40 per transaction per year.

"By applying for and receiving URAC Accreditation, Medecision has demonstrated a commitment to quality healthcare," said URAC President and CEO Kylanne Green. "Quality healthcare is crucial to our nation's welfare and it is important to have organizations that are willing to measure themselves against national standards and undergo rigorous evaluation by an independent accrediting body."

Medecision Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Katherine Schneider, MD, MPhil, FAAFP, agrees. "Medecision is honored to once again receive Health Utilization Management Accreditation from URAC," she said. "Every day, we work hard to promote cost-effective care with optimal outcomes. Achieving full re-accreditation demonstrates our commitment to these goals, underscores the quality of our work with leading health plans and healthcare providers, and reinforces our role as a leader in population health management solutions."
