MEDecision Announces Highmark Inc.'s Selection of Its Collaborative Health Management Platform

MEDecision to Support the Shift to Preventative Care for 4.8 Million Members

WAYNE, PA--(Marketwire - Jun 13, 2011) - MEDecision, Inc. today announced that Highmark Inc., an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, has selected MEDecision's collaborative health management solutions to support the care management of its more than 4.8 million members. The new platform will help the health plan accelerate the shift to a focus on preventative care, scale to significant growth, optimize member and provider satisfaction and enable compliance with HIPAA 5010 and ICD-10 mandates.

One of the largest Blues plans in the nation, Highmark now joins a long list of other progressive health insurance organizations that have trusted MEDecision to support the care management of their members -- over 46 million lives -- for more than 22 years. MEDecision's solutions are designed to support the flow of actionable patient clinical information between payers, providers and patients to ensure the best quality care possible. Highmark will implement MEDecision's core Alineo® case, disease, utilization and behavioral health management platform, URAC®-accredited clinical programs and Nexalign® decision support services.

"MEDecision provides us the flexibility and decision support that we need in an evolving marketplace," Donald R. Fischer, M.D., Highmark's chief medical officer, said. "Their technology solutions will help us facilitate integrated care management, advanced analytics and data integration so that we can provide better clinical support for our members. In turn we will heighten our business performance, while optimizing provider and member satisfaction."

MEDecision's solutions efficiently manage the health of growing populations and expanding lines of business through enhanced scalability and a flexible service-oriented architecture -- able to accommodate up to 50 million members and 4,000 concurrent users. With more than $85 million in research and development invested in a new generation of collaborative health management solutions, MEDecision is poised to best support the current and future needs of the industry as it works to advance patient-centered, accountable care and reduce wasteful spending.

"Highmark's decision to deploy MEDecision solutions is an important vote of confidence in our ability to help the industry shift to accountable care," Deborah M. Gage, president and chief executive officer of MEDecision, said. "Our platform takes collaborative health management to a new level -- layering in embedded analytics, data integration and population management -- core functionality to help progressive payers like Highmark learn more about their members, collaborate with providers and support preventative care."

MEDecision's collaborative health management platform will deliver:

  • A transparent and seamless platform, decision support and workflow tools to enable Highmark to integrate components of all member-related healthcare delivery services including disease management, utilization management and case management
  • Data integration functionality from multiple sources to enhance the Highmark 360 degree member view
