Medeo & Studentcare Launch Revolutionary Student Health Care Program Enabling Provincially Insured Online Visits Between Students and Doctors in British Columbia

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Oct. 21, 2013) - Medeo and Studentcare Networks are launching a revolutionary healthcare service at 13 university and college campuses across British Columbia that allows students to connect with BC doctors using their computers or smartphones. This is the first program of its kind in Canada and will reach 125,000 students in Studentcare's network across British Columbia.

Using Medeo is fast and easy to sign up for. Students at UBC Vancouver, UBC Okanagan, SFU, UFV, UVIC, UNBC, Capilano, Langara, and Royal Roads University can get started by selecting Medeo from their school's online health portal. Once signed up, students are connected by video with a Medeo Coordinator who will ensure their technical needs are met and then connect them with a licensed BC doctor. Seeing doctors on Medeo doesn't cost anything for students with valid Medical Services Plan coverage.

Students will find Medeo especially valuable for prescription renewals, follow ups, medical questions, medication reviews, specialist referrals, dermatology consultations, and sexual health discussions with their doctor. Medeo has extended operating hours from 7am10pm Monday to Friday and is open from 9am3pm on Saturdays enabling access to care that many clinics cannot provide.

"Studentcare has always worked together with community and campus resources to provide students with affordable extended health care options. But a student health plan doesn't help if students can't access the care they need when they need it. We've heard loud and clear from our students that step #1 seeing a doctor is a challenge. By partnering with Medeo, Studentcare can offer students a solution that suits their health and lifestyle," said Lev Bukhman, CEO of Studentcare.

Many students undergo lots of stress and have little if any time to see a doctor. By leveraging online and mobile applications, Medeo makes it easy for students to interact with BC doctors, preserving time for studying and writing papers.

"Many students move to new cities around the province, away from easy access to their family physicians. They are under a lot of new stresses meaning both physical and mental health issues can go unchecked. Quick and easy access to health care will improve students' well being and could ultimately save lives. We see this as particularly true when exams and papers pile up, taking an emotional toll around midterms and finals," said Ryan Wilson, Medeo CEO.

"I recently used Medeo to see a doctor for a referral to a specialist, which I had been putting off for over a year because I didn't want to take time off school or work. With Medeo it took me less than 10 minutes to get what I needed," said Tookie Graham, a recent business program graduate from the University of Victoria.

The Studentcare and Medeo partnership is particularly valuable for students with mobility challenges,

students who live or attend school in remote areas of British Columbia, and students who need to see their doctor frequently because of chronic illnesses. Many specialists, for instance, are located only in Vancouver or Victoria. With Medeo, students living in Prince George or Kelowna can access these specialists just as easily as students living in Vancouver.
