Media Advisory: 2006 AMA-CMA International Conference on Physician Health

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 23, 2006) - The American Medical Association (AMA) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) will co-host the 18th edition of the international conference on physician health from November 30-December 2, 2006 at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier in Ottawa (Ontario, Canada). Over 250 physicians are already registered for the international gathering.

The following sessions will be open to media. Media can register on site at the Conference Registration Desk located in the Adam Foyer. All plenary sessions will be held in the Adam Room.

Thursday, November 30, 2006 -- 12:30 -2:00 pm

Opening keynote speaker: The troubled physician and the perils of perfectionism with Dr. Glen O. Gabbard, Brown Foundation chair of psychoanalysis and professor of psychiatry, Baylor College of Medicine.

Friday, December 1, 2006 -- 8:00 - 9:00 am

Plenary: Physician health matters: preserving a valuable human resource - international panel discussion, with Dr. Dana Hanson (CMA representative to WMA), Dr. Colin McMillan (President, CMA), Dr. Jim Johnson (Chair, BMA), Dr. William Plested (President, AMA) sponsored by the Canadian Medical Protective Association.

Friday, December 1, 2006 -- 3:00-5:00 pm

Plenary: Physicians in disaster situations -international panel discussion with Barbara Schneidman (Chair); Dr. Jim James (Katrina, US), Drs. Brian Hoffman (SARS-CAN), Michael Peters (London Bombings-UK).

Saturday, December 2, 2006 -- 8:00-9:30 am

Plenary: Healthy workplaces: Discussion of the effect of health care work conditions on physician stress and satisfaction with Dr. Bruce Nilsson (Chair); Dr. Richard Gunderman (US), Dr. Edgardo Perez (CAN).

Saturday, December 2, 2006 --2:30- 4:00 pm

Closing keynote speaker: Work-life harmony with Dr. Marla Shapiro, host of Balance Television for Living Well on CTV.
