Prof. Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. Prof. Yunus is the founder of the Grameen Bank and currently serves as the Bank's managing director. This will be an important opportunity for Prof. Yunus to address a group of Canadian media since having won the Nobel Peace Prize.

On Tuesday, November 14 at 11am EST, Prof. Muhammad Yunus will address the media by conference call. This will be an important opportunity for Prof. Yunus to address a group of Canadian media since having won the Nobel Peace Prize. Prof. Yunus will be in Halifax for the Global Microcredit Summit which will bring together more than 2,000 delegates from over 100 countries to set historic goals for lifting half a billion people out of extreme poverty by 2015. Among the 2,000 delegates are Queen Sofia of Spain, the president of Honduras, the prime minister of Pakistan and many others.

Why:

Microcredit has taken on a new prominence since Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank won this year's Nobel Peace Prize. The Norwegian Nobel Committee noted that "lasting peace can not be achieved unless large population groups find ways in which to break out of poverty. Micro-credit is one such means. Development from below also serves to advance democracy and human rights."
