MEDIA ADVISORY: 8th Annual Arthur R. Smith Awards Recognize Excellence in Ending Homelessness in Calgary


CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - March 9, 2015) - Arthur R. Smith's legacy will be celebrated at the annual Arthur R. Smith Awards (Awards) luncheon which will be held, Tuesday, March 10, 2015. A front-line employee, a volunteer and one team from the homeless serving sector will be honoured at the Awards which are named after the founder of the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF), the late Arthur R. Smith. Nominated by members of the public, these Awards recognize front-line staff and volunteers who exemplify excellence in providing housing with support to those at risk of or experiencing homelessness in Calgary. The Awards are made possible through the generous support of Mr. James Stanford.

The three Award recipients for 2014 are:

  • The Infinity Project Team, Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary: Outstanding Team Award. The Infinity Project Team wraps the necessary supports around youth experiencing homelessness to ensure they have access to housing with the foundational supports they need to retain it.
  • Gabriel Chen: Front-line Employee Award. A lawyer with Calgary Legal Guidance, Mr Chen has championed the case for housing stability of at-risk clients throughout the system of care including the justice system.
  • Sharon Robertson: Volunteer Award, The Alex - Pathways. For over four years, Sharon has shared her deep compassion and inspiration to support clients in the Alex's Pathways to Housing Program.

WHAT: A luncheon to honour recipients of the 2014 Arthur R. Smith Awards
WHO: Mrs. Betty-Anne Smith, Mr. James Stanford, OC, Ms. Diana Krecsy, President and CEO of CHF, award recipients, nominators, friends, family, co-workers and selection committees members
WHEN: Tuesday, March 10th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Media are invited to the presentation ceremonies which start at 12:15 p.m.
