Media Advisory/A Modest Proposal: Expert Panel on Expanding Canada Pension Plan

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 15, 2012) - The Canadian Labour Congress will convene an expert panel to examine and debate the various models available to expand the Canada Pension Plan. The discussion will occur in Ottawa before an audience of labour leaders, parliamentarians, researchers and members of the public.

The discussion is a timely one. The CLC has for several years been advocating improvements to the Canada Pension Plan as the best way to provide retirement security to all Canadians. In July 2012, the provincial premiers and territorial leaders instructed their finance ministers to examine proposals to present options for enhancing the CPP. Those ministers are to meet again in December.
