Media Advisory: ACTRA Responds to CRTC Hearings on Broadcasting Licences

Hardacre and Crewson available for comment

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 24, 2009) - ACTRA National President Richard Hardacre and performer Wendy Crewson are available to comment on the CRTC's private broadcaster licence renewal hearings that commence on Monday, April 27.

ACTRA is asking the CRTC to resist calls for deregulation and issue a one-year “status quo” renewal of private broadcasters' licences. Along with most industries, Canada's private TV broadcasters are impacted by the current global financial upheaval. However, their problems are largely self-inflicted and Canadian programming and drama in particular, should not suffer in the rush to respond to challenges facing the broadcasting industry.
