Media Advisory/AdoptWalk 2013: Their Excellencies Walking for a Good Cause

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 25, 2013) - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will both lace up their running shoes for AdoptWalk 2013, a five-kilometre walk along the Ottawa River, in Britannia Park, Ottawa, on Saturday, September 28, 2013.

AdoptWalk raises money to help the Adoption Council of Canada create awareness about the 30 000 children and youth in foster care across the country who are waiting for permanent families. Their Excellencies will arrive at approximately 9:45 a.m. to meet with organizers, adoptive families, volunteers, supporters and community members. As patron of the Adoption Council of Canada, His Excellency will address participants and thank them for taking part in this event before officially kicking off the walk at 10:15 a.m. The event is organized by the Adoption Council of Canada, in collaboration with Children's Bridge Foundation.

As the 28th governor general of Canada, His Excellency has made supporting families and children one of the pillars of his mandate. "Whatever the nature of one's family, kin or community, we all benefit from the love and support of those who are dearest to us," said the Governor General.
