Media Advisory: Affordable housing ground breaking in South Calgary coincides with launch of new charitable housing organization, HomeSpace Society


CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Nov. 24, 2016) - HomeSpace Society, in partnership with the Calgary Homeless Foundation, a member of the RESOLVE Campaign, are pleased to announce a new affordable housing apartment building in the community of South Calgary that will eventually house 23 individuals when completed in October 2017. This $5.4 million development is funded in part by the Government of Alberta and the generous support of a private donor through the RESOLVE Campaign. Learn more.

Additionally, this event will be the official launch of HomeSpace, a new charitable housing entity focused on property management and development of affordable housing for Calgary's most vulnerable. The Calgary Homeless Foundation recently transferred its entire housing portfolio of over 400 units of housing in over 20 properties throughout Calgary to HomeSpace; this move adds capacity to Calgary's current affordable housing system by expediting the build-out of new specialized affordable housing in our city to meet the housing needs of vulnerable residents while supporting the goals of Calgary's Plan to End Homelessness. The Honourable Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Seniors and Housing, will speak about the Government of Alberta's role in the South Calgary housing development and the support the Province has provided, and continues to provide to affordable housing developments in Calgary through the RESOLVE Campaign and other initiatives.

The South Calgary development is the fifth new affordable housing building undertaken by HomeSpace in collaboration with the Calgary Homeless Foundation through the RESOLVE Campaign since 2014 totaling 125 units of new affordable housing for vulnerable Calgarians. There are plans for construction of up to 115 more units over the next two years.
