TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 23, 2014) - The Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) will be hosting the 19th annual AIDSbeat this Friday at Toronto's Liberty Grand. The event is a battle of the bands competition with band members coming from Toronto's leading law firms. All proceeds from the event go to funding vital HIV & AIDS research.

Who: Hosted by CANFAR, attended by more than 1000 professionals working in Toronto's legal community and representing over 50 law firms and professional service providers.

Co-chairs Gordon Capern of Paliare Roland and David Palumbo, Baker & McKenzie, will be on site to speak to media about AIDSbeat, as well as CANFAR President and CEO Christopher Bunting and AIDSbeat founder, Patricia Olasker (Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg).

What: The theme for the 19th annual AIDSbeat is Studio 54. This evening is a party, a competition for best band with winner receiving the Lexpert cup and a year of bragging rights. It is also an opportunity for Toronto's legal community to gather and raise money for HIV & AIDS research. This year's event promises great music, friendly competition, and over-the-top costumes as CANFAR transforms the Liberty Grand into the most famous nightclub of all time! DJ Duarte is set to bring the mood of Studio 54 back to Toronto on Friday night.

When: October 24, 2014. VIP Reception commences at 7pm with the main event and competition for best band officially kicking off shortly after 8pm.

Where: Liberty Grand, Artifacts Room, 25 British Columbia Rd. (Exhibition Place) Toronto, ON, M6K 3C3

Why: Toronto's legal community has recognized the need for continued support for HIV & AIDS research as well as the need for on-going education and awareness programs. Given that approximately 71,300 Canadians are living with HIV, an 11 % increase from 2008, more work is critically needed to help find a vital cure or vaccine for AIDS. The participants and planning committee of AIDSbeat continue to support this effort, and since 1995, AIDSbeat has raised more than $3 million for HIV & AIDS Research.
