Media Advisory: Almost 2 million Ontarians waiting for positive change in budget

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 20, 2013) - Provincial austerity means that almost 2 million Ontarians are on wait lists for vital public services such as long-term care beds, home care, child care, affordable housing, or are still living in poverty, CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn will tell the Ontario government's finance committee in a presentation tomorrow evening.

The CUPE Ontario pre-budget submission will highlight growing inequality in Ontario thanks to austerity budgets that gave quick tax breaks to corporations, but which left the majority of Ontario residents falling further behind.

"The previous government's austerity agenda is failing Ontario. Premier Wynne must bring in a budget that prioritizes the two million Ontarians on wait lists for services or living in poverty. We are providing her with concrete, fiscally responsible ways to stimulate growth, create good jobs and provide Ontarians with the stable public services they need," said Hahn.

Fred Hahn will be available to media following his presentation or by appointment.
