Nation's Physicians Gather to Lead Discussion on Emerging Medical and Public Health Issues

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - June 19, 2013) -  The nation's broadest assembly of physicians and medical students gather today in Chicago to shape the health care agenda of the American Medical Association (AMA), the country's largest physician organization.

The AMA's House of Delegates is the policy-making body at the center of American medicine, bringing together an inclusive group of physicians and medical students representing every state and medical field. The AMA uses a democratic process to create a national physician consensus on emerging issues in public health, science, ethics, business and government to continually provide safer, higher-quality, and more efficient care for patients.

Among the proposed policies likely to be considered during today's final voting session include:

  • Removing sugar-sweetened beverages from the government SNAP program.
