Media Advisory: As negotiations continue, writers and patrons to join library workers Monday for a 'read-in' outside Toronto Reference Library

Authors Anne Dublin, Hugh Spencer join CUPE 4948 to highlight importance of Toronto's libraries and the workers behind North America's best-used library system

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 11, 2016) - Toronto authors Anne Dublin and Hugh Spencer will join Toronto Public Library (TPL) patrons and members of Local 4948 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 4948) on Monday, April 11 at 4:30 p.m. for a 'read-in' outside the Toronto Reference Library, located at 789 Yonge Street.

The event will highlight CUPE 4948's ongoing efforts to secure a fair collective agreement that addresses the critical issues of insecure, temporary and precarious part-time employment at TPL. More than half of TPL workers are currently precariously employed, and three quarters of TPL's workforce are women.

Organizers are asking people interested in attending the 'read-in' to bring along a copy of their favourite book.
