Media Advisory-ATU 113: Toronto Transit Workers Media Conference Moved to City Hall Council Chamber Because of Anticipated Large Attendance

DOWNSVIEW, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 10, 2008) -

Due to the large number of TTC workers expected to attend this morning's media conference (see details below), the venue has been moved from Committee Room 1 to the Council Chamber. This is the first time a Toronto union has held a media conference in the Council Chamber.

DATE: Monday, March 10, 2008

TIME: 11:15 a.m.

PLACE: Toronto City Hall
100 Queen Street West
Council Chamber

Special Report on the TTC to be issued and Toronto Transit Workers' Union Public Campaign to be launched

The purpose of the conference is two-fold:

- Leading Ontario environmentalist and former Ontario Cabinet Minister Marilyn Churley will introduce her just-completed Special Report that calculates, for the first time, the dollar value of the TTC to Toronto and its residents. A short video summary of the report will be played.

- ATU 113 President Bob Kinnear will formally launch an innovative public campaign, the largest ever conducted by a Toronto union, to promote awareness of the value of the work of TTC employees. The campaign involves TV ads in five languages, advertising on TTC vehicles and subway stations, a special website, and other materials. The ads will be previewed for the media.
