Media Advisory; BC Centre for Disease Control-Study Investigates Role of Mass Media During Public Health Crises: Media Participants Sought in British Columbia

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - June 16, 2008) - Researchers at the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority) and the University of British Columbia are seeking participants for a study investigating the key role of the mass media in public health crises and emergencies.

News/assignment/health editors and news/health journalists from BC newspapers, radio, television and online media are encouraged to participate in this province-wide study, which aims to generate findings on what would assist media representatives and public health officials to work in partnership to fulfill their respective roles during public health crises.

This study is funded by Genome Canada and will be undertaken by researchers at UBC/BC Centre for Disease Control. Participation involves one 30-minute telephone interview. This study is anonymous and confidential; participant names will not be linked to findings.
