Media Advisory: BioContact Quebec 12th Edition Kicks Off October 5th

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 6, 2005) - The leading Canadian biopharmaceutical partnership symposium, BioContact Quebec 2005, will once again this year gather more than 1,200 participants from October 5-7, 2005, at the Chateau Frontenac in beautiful Quebec City.

Over those three days, more than 150 top financial, investment and biopharmaceutical companies, from around the world including the United States, Asia and Europe, will participate in a series of presentations and one-on-one meetings. Senior representatives from presenting biopharmaceutical companies, and their strategic partners, will be showcasing their cutting edge research and pipeline activities in different sectors such as cancer, cardiology, endocrinology, genomics and proteomics, neurobiology, immunology, medical technologies and services.

Each year, BioContact Quebec welcomes renowned keynote speakers from the venture capital and biopharmaceutical sectors who will share some of the latest information and trends. On October 5th, Mary Macdonald, Vice-President, Investment Banking Segment, Canada, Thomson Macdonald & Associates will present the opening address with her analysis of the Canadian biotech sector. Ms. Macdonald's conference will tackle the important question "are the early VC investments starting to pay off?" Her update on the biotech industry is not to be missed!

Also not to be missed is the special International Financing Session on Wednesday October 5th from 2 pm till 5 pm. BioContact Quebec will host two panels of leading figures in the US financial community who all share a common interest in expanding their involvement with Canadian companies. The first panel will consist of venture capital and private equity investors. The second one will be composed of investment bankers of various sizes and interests actively engaged in raising funds for Canadian life sciences companies.

Finally, BioContact Quebec 2005 closing address on Friday October 7th belongs this year to a very special guest. Sylvain Bedard, heart transplant recipient, established a world record in December 2004 by reaching 6,120 metres of the Sajama volcano in Bolivia, surpassing the known climbing record for transplant patients. Entitled "Heart at new Heights", Sylvain Bedard's conference will speak to participants on how science has helped keep him alive and how he now helps, through his risky adventures, push science to further limits. Sylvain Bedard, who won medals in several disciplines at the 2001 Canadian Transplant Games and represented Canada at the World Transplant Games held in Japan, will be featured in a one-hour documentary to air on Radio-Canada television show Decouverte this fall.
