Media Advisory: "Bumps on the Road- A 9K Walk for Pregnancy" on Sunday, October 23 2011

Host: Canadian Foundation for Women's Health

Cause: On Sunday, October 23 2011, the Canadian Foundation for Women's Health (CFWH) and local businesses in the Old Ottawa South community come together to raise funds for a great cause: bringing awareness of unknown pregnancy conditions and supporting the research to address the challenges faced by many women during their pregnancy.

Event: "Bumps on the Road- A 9K Walk for Pregnancy"

Date: Sunday, October 23 2011

Walk Start Time: Participants register at 7:00 a.m., Walk starts at 8:00 a.m.

Location: The walk starts and ends at the CFWH National Office on 780 Echo Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, K1S 5R7. Parking is not available onsite. People are encouraged to park on the streets or at Lansdowne Park and walk over to the starting point on Echo Drive.

Course: Participants will be heading West on Echo Drive for a few meters, cross Bank Street at the lights near Echo Drive and go down the path onto Colonel By. The walk will continue North-East down the Colonel By path for approximately 4.5K and we return to 780 Echo Drive from the 4.5K mark.

Water stations will be available at the 2K (7K) and 4.5K points.

Registration: Visit the Running Room Events Section

Cost: $50 early registration ($60 after October 5 2011). A charitable tax receipt will be issued to all participants.

All proceeds from this event will go towards the Canadian Foundation for Women's Health Research Award, Fellowships and Grants Program.

Number of Participants: maximum of 250 individuals

Dress Code: Because 9K represents 9 months of carrying a baby, we are encouraging all participants, women and men, to wear their bellies with pride: real or fake! We are hoping that participants will wear a weighted backpack or a fake belly to see what it feels like to carry extra weight while being pregnant.
