Media Advisory: Busloads of CUPE Members From Across Ontario Joining Hamilton Solidarity Rally Tomorrow for Locked Out Steelworkers

HAMILTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 28, 2011) - Hundreds of CUPE members from across Ontario will stand side-by-side with Hamiltonians at a massive rally and March in support of that community.

"From across Ontario, we will stand shoulder to shoulder with you," pledged Fred Hahn, Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario President.

For more than three months, members of Steelworkers Local 1005 have been locked out by their employer, U.S. Steel, holding the line on crippling cuts to pensions and benefits. In response, the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) have called on workers and unions across the Province to stand with the community tomorrow.

"Our members have heard that call and are answering it. We'll stand side by side with Hamilton and Local 1005 to tell U.S. Steel and the Harper Government that 'Enough is Enough,' said Hahn.

WHO: CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn and hundreds of CUPE members from across Ontario.
WHAT: Rally and march in support of locked USW Local 1005 members
WHEN: Saturday, January 29, 1 p.m.
