Media Advisory: CA Institute Holds Conference for High School Teachers Nov. 15

Chartered Accountants support accounting programs across Ontario

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 14, 2006) -

ATTN: BUSINESS / EDUCATION REPORTERS

As part of its efforts to assist high school business teachers, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario is holding a Teacher Colleague Conference for business teachers in Toronto on November 15. Fifty teachers from across the province are coming to the Institute and they'll spend the day learning about the free programs and services that are available for educators through the Institute's Teacher Colleague Program (TCP). The gathering will also give teachers an opportunity to network and share best practices in business teaching with their colleagues, while learning more about the CA profession.

The November 15 conference follows in the wake of two October meetings for Toronto District School Board business teachers. "We're holding these conferences to show the Institute's Teacher Colleagues the tools and resources that the Institute has developed to help teachers better prepare their students for the challenging and competitive world of business," said Brian Leader, the Institute's Vice-President. "We think it's important that the people training tomorrow's business leaders, including its Chartered Accountants, have a wide variety of high-quality educational resources and materials."

The TCP, which is free to all Ontario high school business teachers, provides resource materials that cover a wide range of issues that enhance the delivery of the business and accounting curriculum. At the conference, Institute representatives and teachers will discuss a number of topics, including:

- The programs available for teachers and students, including recently developed case studies on everything from making a business case and reading a statement to dealing with complex ethical issues.

- Background on the advantages of the CA designation for students considering a career in business.

The Institute believes the meetings are a valuable opportunity for teachers to share best practices and learn more about the potential career opportunities a CA designation offers students.

"The Teacher Colleague Program educates teachers about business, especially accounting, so they can pass that knowledge on to their students," said Leader. "It's a partnership that is continually evolving and improving as we work together to educate Ontario's future business professionals."
