Media Advisory: Canada's Largest Business Association Sets out Canada's Priorities for 2008

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 25, 2008) - The Canadian Chamber of Commerce will be releasing the "Canadian Business Agenda: prosperity- competitiveness - quality of life" on Monday, January 28, 2008. This report represents the views of the Canadian Chamber's members on issues that will have a major impact on the prosperity of our nation, and the standard of living and quality of life of every Canadian. While the Canadian Chamber's initiatives cover a broad spectrum, each one contributes to improving Canada's competitiveness.

What is the greatest threat to Canada's economic security for the future? Complacency. While we've been making improvements every year, others have been improving faster. We can take nothing for granted, and are falling far short of our potential as a country. The change that we need in Canada isn't incremental; it's transformational. And you won't do that unless you set your sights high. The rest of the world will not wait for us to get our act together and global competition is growing every day.

By formulating and implementing smart policies and programs, government can lay the foundation and provide a framework for lasting economic prosperity that will enable Canadian businesses and individuals to achieve great things for the common good. As parliament returns to business, it will be critical to bring a greater degree of focus on the competitiveness challenges facing Canada.
