OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 27, 2011) - Dr. Brian Evans, Canada's Chief Veterinary Officer and Chief Food Safety Officer, will speak to media about Canada's role in global efforts to control foreign animal diseases such as rinderpest ("cattle plague"), which the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) announced has now been eradicated.

Recognizing the need to protect Canadian farmers and the Canadian public from foreign threats, the Government of Canada works with the OIE and other international partners to control and, where possible, eradicate animal diseases that can have a devastating impact on the economy and human health, in Canada and globally.
