Media Advisory: Canadian Forces Nijmegen Marchers Pay Their Respects At Vimy Ridge

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 16, 2011) - On July 17, 2011, a Canadian Forces (CF) contingent of 240 members on their way to the Netherlands to participate in the 95th annual International Four Days Marches Nijmegen, will stop in France to commemorate the sacrifice of more than 66,000 Canadian service personnel who died during the First World War.

When: July 17 at 11:00 a.m. Central European Summer Time (5:00 a.m. EDT).
Where: Canadian National Vimy Memorial, Vimy, France.
What: CF contingent will participate in a memorial ceremony at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial on Vimy Ridge, Sergeant (Ret'd) Joe Brink will lay a wreath at the Memorial on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Attending the event will be the following VIPs: The Honourable Laurie Hawn, Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Edmonton Centre; Mr. Blaine Calkins, M.P. for Wetaskiwin, Alberta; Honorary Colonel Dennis Erker, Loyal Edmonton Regiment; Colonel J. Hausmann, U.S. Defence Attaché to Canada; Sergeant (Ret'd) Joe Brink of the Royal Canadian Legion; as well as LCol Nicolas Lallemand de Driésen from the French Ministry of Defence. The Air Command Band, consisting of 25 CF members, will also perform.
