Media Advisory: Canadian Forces Nijmegen Marchers Pay Their Respects at Vimy Ridge

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 13, 2012) - On July 14, 2012, a Canadian Forces (CF) contingent of 270 members on their way to the Netherlands to participate in the 96th annual International Four Days Marches Nijmegen, will stop in Arras, France, to commemorate the sacrifice of more than 66 000 Canadian service personnel who died during the First World War. This visit to Vimy Ridge is especially poignant as this year marks the 95th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy.

When: July 14 at 11 a.m. Central European Summer Time (5 a.m. EDT).
Where: Canadian National Vimy Memorial, Vimy, France.
What: CF contingent will participate in a memorial ceremony at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial on Vimy Ridge. On behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion, Comrade Mark Steele will lay a wreath at the Memorial.

Attending the event will be the following VIPs: Mr. David Jacobson, United States Ambassador to Canada; Mr. Randy Hoback, Member of Parliament (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan); Colonel Creg Paulk, Senior U.S. Military Attaché to Canada; Mr. Don Love, of Veterans Affairs Canada; Comrade Mark Steele of the Royal Canadian Legion; and Mr. Larry Lashkevich, of Logistik Unicorp. The Central Band of the Canadian Forces and the Air Command Pipes and Drums, consisting of 38 CF members and civilians, will also perform.
