Media Advisory/Canadian Labour Congress-London Workers Demand: Fix EI and Fix it Now!"

LONDON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 1, 2009) - The London and District Labour Council and the Canadian Labour Congress will hold a LABOUR SOLIDARITY RALLY & FORUM tomorrow to let people hit hard by the economic crisis express their anger about getting second class support from their government.

Hassan Yussuff, Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Labour Congress will be among the speakers at tomorrow's rally. The forum will feature economic, political and social policy experts from the labour movement. Topics being discussed include the cause of the economic crisis, the labour movement's campaign for change, and the federal government's foreign temporary workers program.

RALLY: Saturday, May 2nd from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
1156 Dundas Street East (Beta Foods/McCormick's)

FORUM: Saturday, May 2nd from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
606 First Street (CAW Local 27)
Lunch will be served from noon until the forum starts.

The Canadian Labour Congress is helping local labour organizations in communities hit hard by the economic crisis organize rallies and educational forums so people can express their anger and look for ways to get the help they need and the respect they deserve.

"Half as many unemployed people are able to get help from EI today compared to the last recession. Working people are getting left behind while the people who caused the economic crisis that killed their jobs and took away their retirement savings are getting richer. They have every right to be angry about this. They have every right to find a way to stop this from happening to their families and their communities," says Yussuff.

The Canadian Labour Congress, the national voice of the labour movement, represents 3.2 million Canadian workers. The CLC brings together Canada's national and international unions along with the provincial and territorial federations of labour and 130 district labour councils.
