Media Advisory: Canadian Tire Jumpstart presents the I Love To Skate program's inaugural session set for Monday, Jan. 17

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 13, 2011) - The Ottawa Senators and Canadian Tire Jumpstart, in partnership with the Sens Foundation and the City of Ottawa, announced today that the first session of the Canadian Tire Jumpstart presents I Love To Skate program will take place on Monday, Jan. 17, at the Jules Morin Park outdoor rink in Lowertown. The initiative aims to provide financially disadvantaged children in neighbourhoods across Ottawa with the opportunity to learn how to skate. To highlight the program's inaugural session, Mayor Jim Watson, Senators forward Peter Regin, Sens Foundation president Danielle Robinson and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Ottawa board member Dave McClenahan will join children from York Street Public School at the outdoor rink for their first skating lesson.

The Canadian Tire Jumpstart presents I Love To Skate program will see more than 400 children from 27 priority Ottawa neighbourhoods receive free recreational skating lessons from qualified instructors at outdoor rinks across the city. Communities are identified by the City of Ottawa through an application process which later sees children obtain a voucher, allowing them to visit a local Canadian Tire retailer to purchase a helmet and skates needed to participate in the program.

Who: Mayor Jim Watson, City of Ottawa; Senators forward Peter Regin; Dave McClenahan, Canadian Tire dealer and founder and board member of the Ottawa Jumpstart charity; Danielle Robinson, Sens Foundation president; Dr. Isra Levy, Medical Officer of Health; and Dan Chenier, general manager, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services.

When: Monday, Jan. 17, at 2:45 p.m.

Where: Jules Morin Park (40 Cobourg Street, Ottawa). The park is located directly across the street from the York Street Public School. Limited on-street parking available.

Photo opportunity: Media will have the opportunity to take images of City of Ottawa dignitaries, in addition to Senators' and Canadian Tire representatives as they tie skates and interact with participants prior to the on-ice outdoor learning session. Dignitaries and representatives will also be available for interviews.
