Media Advisory/Canadian Union of Public Employees: Diversity Event to Honour UN Day to Eliminate Racism

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - March 27, 2009) - For four hours tomorrow, J.N. Burnett School in Richmond will come alive with multicultural music and dance in a community celebration of diversity that will commemorate the recent United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racism and Discrimination.

Like previous events held in Surrey, Prince George, Coquitlam and Victoria, this year's version of "Include Me!", sponsored by the B.C. division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, will put a spotlight on the rich cultural diversity of the host community.

"It's always a very powerful event, and a lot of fun, and this year will be no exception," says event organizer and CUPE BC alternate diversity vice-president (workers of colour) Shehnaz Motani. "The message of tolerance, understanding and sharing between cultures is more important than ever, and these events are a very positive and affirming way to reinforce that message."

The event will also feature speeches by community leaders that will focus on how to fight racism and foster equality in society. "Include Me!" is free and everyone is welcome. Free refreshments will be served.

WHEN: Saturday, March 28, 2009, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

WHERE: J.N. Burnett Secondary School
5011 Granville Avenue, Richmond
