Media Advisory: Candlelight Vigil Honours Province's Victims of Impaired Driving

GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR--(Marketwired - June 13, 2013) - MADD Canada's Newfoundland and Labrador Chapters and Community Leaders are honouring victims of impaired driving with a Candlelight Service of Hope and Remembrance on June 15th.

Family and friends of those who have been killed in impairment-related crashes, and people who have themselves been injured, will be joined by special guests including the Honourable Frank F. Fagan, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador and Members of the House of Assembly for the candlelight vigil. Following the ceremony, guests will go to nearby Centennial Park for a commemorative ceremony at the Provincial Monument which has been engraved with the names of victims.

The Provincial Monument for victims of impaired driving was initiated by the members of the MADD Exploits Valley Chapter. With sponsorship from Central Funeral Homes and Nelson Monuments, and approval for the site granted by the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, the monument was first unveiled in 2011 with 23 names engraved. Thirteen names will be added this year.
