Media Advisory: CDIC 2010 Annual Public Meeting

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 25, 2010) - On Saturday, October 30, the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) will hold its Annual Public Meeting in conjunction with the ZoomerShow in Toronto. This event will provide CDIC's new President and CEO, Michèle Bourque, with her first opportunity to speak directly with Canadians about the federal deposit insurance program and CDIC's role in Canada's financial safety net. Representatives from the Board of directors and the executive team will also be present at the meeting, which will run from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. There will be an opportunity for media and the public to ask questions.

About CDIC

CDIC is a federal Crown corporation that provides deposit insurance against the loss of deposits with its member institutions in the event of their failure. Eligible deposits are automatically insured from $1 to $100,000 per person at each member institution. CDIC members include Canadian banks, loan companies and trust companies that take deposits, as well as retail associations governed by the Cooperative Credit Associations Act that take deposits. CDIC is entirely funded by premiums assessed on its member institutions and does not receive federal tax dollars. As at April 30, 2010, CDIC insured $602 billion in deposits at its member institutions.
