MEDIA ADVISORY: Chartered Accountants of Ontario-Students Given Opportunity to Win COIN

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - May 7, 2007) -

Almost 700 high school students from across Ontario are being given a chance to compete for prize money in COIN: The Ontario CA Challenge. They'll be asked to answer challenging multiple-choice questions on financial topics, including:



- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Revenue recognition
- Valuation
- Taxation.


The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario holds this annual competition to give students considering a career as a Chartered Accountant the opportunity to compete, have fun and earn some cash prizes.

The first place prize provincially is $1,500, with second place getting $1,000 and third collecting $500, with rest of the top 20 Honour Roll members each receiving $100 and an invitation to the awards luncheon. There are also separate $100 prizes and certificates of achievement for the top students from each of the 23 CA District Associations across the province.

To be eligible, a student must have become a member of the Institute's Associate Student Program by March 21, 2007. In the competition, they will answer a 75-question, multiple-choice test at the premises of a participating CA firm. All of the participants receive a certificate of participation and a chance to find out more about the exciting opportunities offered by a career in Chartered Accounting.

The Institute can put reporters in touch with participating CAs and students in most Ontario communities. The top three winners province-wide, as well as the top student from each of the 23 CA District Associations, will be announced in Toronto in June.
