Media Advisory/Chief Electoral Officer Holds Press Conference On 2005 Recommendations Report

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 27, 2005) - The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean-Pierre Kingsley, will hold a press conference to present his recommendations report following the 38th general election. Completing the Cycle of Electoral Reforms - Recommendations from the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada on the 38th General Election, which will be submitted to the Speaker of the House of Commons on Thursday, September 29, 2005, contains a number of recommendations for amending the Canada Elections Act.



Some key issues that will be addressed at the press conference
include:

- a new way to deliver elections
- more rights for candidates
- expanded and more equitable broadcasting rights
- increased scrutiny of party returns
- expanding enforcement powers
- the means to detect voter impersonation at polling stations
