Media Advisory/CIDA: Ted Menzies to Speak at Screening of Documentary by Afghan Women Journalists to Mark the 17th Annual Jailed Journalists Support Day

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 21, 2006) - Ted Menzies, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Josee Verner, Minister of International Cooperation and Minister for La Francophonie and Official Languages, will deliver opening remarks at the screening Afghanistan Unveiled , a documentary film produced by two Afghan women journalists. Mr. Menzies will reiterate the commitment of Canada's new government to support activities that help women take their place as full and equal members of society.

The film's producers, Mehria Azizi, a camerawoman for ANIA, an Afghan-based non-governmental organization and Najeeba Ayubi, director of the independent press group Killid, are on a cross-Canada tour to mark the 17th annual Jailed Journalists Support Day. Their visit is organized and hosted by Reporters Without Borders Canada and Canada's International Development Research Centre.
