Media Advisory: CLC Executive Members to meet MPs About Improving Canada and Quebec Pension Plans

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 18, 2010) - Members of the Executive Council of the Canadian Labour Congress will fan out on Parliament Hill throughout the day on Tuesday, October 19, urging MPs to make improvements to the Canada and Quebec Pension Plans.

CLC president Ken Georgetti will be available for comment to the media.

The labour movement believes that improvements to the CPP/QPP offer the best way to provide retirement security and most Canadians appear to agree with this assessment. The CLC launched a national campaign a year ago to promote a gradual doubling of CPP/QPP benefits.

An Environics poll released on October 15 indicates that 78 per cent of respondents support increasing CPP/QPP benefits.

The Canadian Labour Congress, the national voice of the labour movement, represents 3.2 million Canadian workers. The CLC brings together Canada's national and international unions along with the provincial and territorial federations of labour and 130 district labour councils. Web site:
