Media Advisory: CLC President Available for Media Comment on March 21 Federal Budget

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 20, 2013) - Ken Georgetti, President of the Canadian Labour Congress, will be available for media comment regarding the federal budget on Thursday, March 21, 2013.

Sylvain Schetagne, CLC Chief Economist, will participate in the commentators' lockup in Ottawa, and he will also be available for comment in both English and French following the lockup.

The CLC believes the major economic problem faced by Canadians is not government deficits. It is, rather, a sluggish economic recovery, a stalling job market, stagnant wages, record high levels of household debt, along with an inadequate Employment Insurance coverage and the lack of retirement security. Canadians expect their federal government to tackle these problems in the 2013 federal budget. The CLC is calling for action in five areas: infrastructure; sectoral strategy; training; income security and retirement security.

The Canadian Labour Congress, the national voice of the labour movement, represents 3.3 million Canadian workers. The CLC brings together Canada's national and international unions along with the provincial and territorial federations of labour and 130 district labour councils. Website: www.canadianlabour.ca.
