Media Advisory/Coalition to Launch National Campaign Telling the Federal Government to 'Fix Our Highways'

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 17, 2005) - Ottawa will collect more than $6 billion in fuel taxes this year, but will put only about 7 per cent of that amount back into the National Highway System.

A coalition of business associations wants this imbalance addressed, and will be launching a campaign this week that advocates for new federal investment in national highways. Members of Parliament from all four major parties will be in attendance.

The 'Fix Our Highways' coalition will be unveiling a new public website, releasing the results of a survey of MPs, and discussing the economic impact of the federal government's recent record of inadequate funding for national highways.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 19
11 a.m.

WHERE: Charles Lynch Media Theatre
Room 130-S Centre Block, Parliament Buildings
