Media Advisory: Community Demands "A Taste of Justice" at Richtree Eaton Centre Restaurant Event

Workers' rights belong on the menu, supporters contend

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 3, 2013) -

WHERE: Eaton Centre, Queen Street Entrance
WHEN: Thursday, October 3rd, 5 PM
Rally/teach-in at Queen Street Entrance; special coupons on offer for Richtree Restaurant customers
WHY: Richtree Restaurants' Eaton Centre location is hosting a "Taste of Richtree" event, nearly a month after re-opening, non-union, without any of its original staff.
The Ontario Labour Relations Board has begun hearing charges that Richtree is attempting to evade its obligations as a unionized employer by cloaking a renovation as the creation of a new, unrelated business. The next hearing dates are not until December; community members are urging Richtree Markets to live up to its promise to be "GOOD" by doing right by our members TODAY.
The Richtree workers' fight has become a local emblem of the struggle to create good jobs in the North American food service industry.
VISUALS: Lively informational picket line beginning at 5 PM, including original staff fighting for their jobs, workers and supporters; coupons for less tangible "good" items such as respect, fairness and justice provided to members of the public.
