Media Advisory/CORRECTION FROM SOURCE: National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign 2010 Opening Ceremony

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 15, 2010) - This document corrects and replaces the release sent on September 15 at 2:34 PM ET. The corrected version follows.

The National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign (NDWCC) will be launching its 2010 campaign by holding activities at the Cartier Square Drill Hall/Lisgar field for employees of the Department of National Defence (DND) on September 16.

The NDWCC, as part of the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC), provides National Defence employees in the National Capital Region an opportunity to make a donation to one or more charities of their choice. Last year, DND raised $1.77 million in the National Capital Region for various charitable organizations across the country.

Activities include a BBQ for DND employees, live entertainment, the 10th Annual VCDS Canoe Race, a tricycle race between DND senior managers, and the unveiling of the 2010 campaign goal.

Guest speakers include Robert Fonberg, Deputy Minister of National Defence and GCWCC Campaign Chair, Rear-Admiral A.M. Smith, Chief Military Personnel and NDWCC Champion, and spokesperson Tanya Scott, La Maison de l'amitié, who will speak on behalf of the charities.


1030 – Canoe race begins at the HMCS Carleton Jetty at Dow's Lake
1100 – Canoes will begin arriving at the finish line between Laurier and Mackenzie King Bridges
1145 – BBQ at Lisgar Field/Cartier Square
1210 – Official opening
1245 – Tricycle race
1330 – End of activities
