Media Advisory: CUPE 15 urges public to stand up for public education

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - April 12, 2016) - The Vancouver School Board is considering permanent closure of 12 to 13 schools in order to balance their budget. The BC Liberal government has increased funding to private schools while making cuts to the public system. After fifteen years of chronic underfunding, arbitrary occupancy rate requirements, downloading extra costs to boards and families, and reneging on their promise to seismically upgrade all schools by 2020, this government has clearly shown its lack of commitment to public education.

CUPE Local 15 represents 1,400 members in Vancouver schools who provide all levels of support to students. They are asking the public to join them in standing up for public education.
