CHARLOTTETOWN, PRINCE-EDWARD-ISLAND--(Marketwire - May 15, 2009) - CUPE PEI is hosting an evening on the struggle of Filipino workers against the privatization of public services in the Philippines and of the increasing repression public sector workers, trade unionists and the Filipino people are experiencing as a result.

In the Philippines, fighting for human rights, labour rights and opposing privatization of public services has resulted in the escalation of forced disappearances, arbitrary arrests, and the extra-judicial killings of more than 1000 workers, labor activists, peasants, lawyers, clergy and journalists.
