Media Advisory: CUPE National President to Speak at Anti-Budget Rally

FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - April 16, 2009) - Paul Moist, national president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, will speak at a rally this Friday, April 17 at noon in front of the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly.

Rally organizers anticipate large numbers of CUPE members and supporters will gather at the Legislature to protest the provincial budget, which will have a devastating effect on workers, low income families and rural communities across the province.

"This budget ignores the advice of so many economists on how to weather the recession," says Moist. "Right now, the people of New Brunswick need jobs and strong public services they can rely on. Instead, the Graham government has chosen to punish workers with wage freezes, while introducing a rash of cuts that severely limit the province's ability to care for its people."

WHAT: Rally against the New Brunswick provincial budget

WHO: Paul Moist, national president, CUPE

WHEN: Friday, April 17 2009, 12:00 pm
