BRIDGEWATER, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Dec. 4, 2015) - CUPE leaders will join other community and labour activists this Sunday, December 6 for the Second Story Women's Centre's Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
On December 6, we mark the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, where 14 women were singled out because of their gender and murdered. One of those women, Maryse Laganière, was a CUPE member who worked at the school.
South Shore District Labour Council President and CUPE Local 3936 President Lisa Mason will be speaking on how unions contribute to women's economic independence.
CUPE NS Women's Committee Chair Sharon Hubley, CUPE Local 8920 Vice-President Dianne Frittenburg and Heather Croft from CUPE Local 3936 will take part in a reading of bios of murdered and missing aboriginal women.
The events will take place at the Lunenburg Fire Hall Community Room starting at 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 6 with light refreshments to follow.
