Media Advisory: CUPE Ontario-From Madison to Megacity-Wisconsin Labour Leader in Toronto Following Massive Rally in Her Home State

On Heels of 100,000-Strong Rally in Madison, AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Stephanie Bloomingdale to Share Her Experiences With Toronto CUPE Locals

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 14, 2011) - As working people across North America 'stand with Wisconsin', Stephanie Bloomingdale is in Toronto with a message—Wisconsin stands with Toronto.

Bloomingdale, Secretary-Treasurer of the Wisconsin State American Federation of Labour-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), is the keynote speaker today at a special meeting of Toronto-area Locals organized by the Ontario Division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE-Ontario).

"We are so honoured and pleased that Stephanie is able to share her experiences of the past month with us in Toronto today," said Fred Hahn, President of CUPE Ontario.

For nearly a month, Bloomingdale has been one of thousands of Wisconsinites who have rallied, protested, mobilized and camped out in and around the State House in Madison to protest Governor Scott Walker's anti-democratic efforts to strip hard-working residents of rights they have had for more than 50 years. Bloomingdale left for Toronto just one day after 100,000 Wisconsinites rallied in Madison, pledging to shift their focus from public protests to the ballot box.

Media and the public are welcome to attend Bloomingdale's keynote speech, which takes place between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. in the Dominion Ballroom of the Toronto Sheraton Centre, located at 123 Queen Street West.

Notice to Assignment Desks and Photo Editors—Stephanie Bloomingdale is available for in-person or telephone interviews. Media outlets wishing to interview Stephanie Bloomingdale or CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn should contact CUPE Communications Representative Kevin Wilson at 416-821-6641.
