Media Advisory: CUPE president Paul Moist guest speaker at Kingston lunch

Hospital food fight broadens support

KINGSTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 4, 2011) - Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) National President Paul Moist will be the guest speaker at a Kingston community lunch next Monday. He will join several hundred area and eastern Ontario advocates of stronger local economies and good jobs.

Moist will focus his remarks on the recent outsourcing of patient food to a factory operation outside of Toronto when a local solution would be better for Kingston's economy.

The key question here is "what is the role of the provincial government and the local MPP in promoting vibrant local economies and environmental sustainability? Instead of provincial policies urging broader public sector employers like hospitals and universities to support small businesses, small family farms and local jobs in communities like Kingston, the province has policies that dissuade local procurement," says Moist.

Media are invited to attend the lunch as well as a pre-lunch media conference at 11:30 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2011, at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 588 Division Street, Kingston.
